《牛津字典》给出的解释 adj. 下一个的；其次的；贴近的 n. 下一个 prep. 靠近；居于…之后 next to sb 是一个介词短语， 所以next 是一个介词（prep），要表达靠近某人，next to 中的 to 不能省略。next door to sb 意思是 与某人是邻居 "她住在我家隔壁"的准确翻译是：she lives next door. She lives next door to me 意思是：她是我隔壁的邻居。
